Nestled in the heart of Northern California’s breathtaking scenic coastline,
Crescent City is indeed the gateway, heading either north or south,
to some of the most spectacular, must-see
tourist destinations in the United States.

Your choices are many: Walk barefoot on beautiful beaches;
go fishing in the ocean, nearby rivers or mountain streams;
test your courage riding white water rapids;
savor authentic Indian smoked salmon;
purchase wonderfully crafted chainsaw art.

Gaze at herds of haughty Roosevelt Elk grazing in the meadows;
be dwarfed by huge statues of the legendary Paul Bunyan and his Blue Ox, Babe;
ride on a sky-tram that takes you soaring high above the leafy forest canopy.

Maybe just sit in your car on a vista point and watch rolling waves
as they break into foaming daisy chains on the shore far below;
take a stroll during a stunning sunset,
and comb the sand for treasures scattered there by the sea.

Of course, be sure and visit the famous Redwoods National Parks
located in California’s Humboldt and Del Norte Counties for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Gaze upward in awe as you walk through cathedrals
formed by ancient trees that tower endlessly into the heavens.

Or, take a hike in the wilderness areas of the mountains just over the border in Southern Oregon;
then head back to the glorious coastline that awaits you
further north in Brookings, Gold Beach, Coos Bay and beyond.

Venture into glorious mountain vistas on roads that wind along the Smith or Rogue River routes;
or journey down to Ashland and see world class theatre at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
Wintertime also offers spectacular skiing on Mount Ashland and Mount Shasta.

You could also decide to travel south from Crescent City on Hwy 101
to the California Victorian Seaport town of Eureka on Humboldt Bay;
enjoy the architecture in historic Old Town and Ferndale;
take in some art museums, live theatre and music festivals.
The intriguing possibilities are limitless.

There are indeed countless destinations (in every direction)
to choose from when you visit the Northern Coast of California and Southern Oregon;
and you can easily get there when you stay at the comfortable Best Value Inn
on Highway 101 N. in downtown Crescent City.

Don’t leave before seeing some of the most interesting
nearby local attractions—such as the fascinating
marine animals on display in the aquarium at Sea World;
the fleets of fishing boats that are moored in the crescent-shaped harbor,
or heading out to sea (during crab season).
There are also restaurants, charter boats, and scenic tours available around the area.

Guarding the harbor is the century old Battery Park Lighthouse,
a must-see landmark that continues to warn sailors to beware of the rocky coastline.
North of the lighthouse are miles of inviting beaches
perfect for tidepooling or surfing, and winding trails to be wandered.

Castle Rock, a national wildlife refuge where literally thousands of sea birds and sea lions
constantly gather, stands majestically close by.

Six miles off shore, the world famous Point St. George Lighthouse can be seen,
weather permitting; but more adventurous tourists can get up close and personal
by visiting the lighthouse on helicopter rides.

However, if you prefer the simple pleasures of bird and mammal watching—or
admiring the beautiful wild flowers that flourish both near the beaches and in the forests—
they’re nearby or only a short drive away.
